In the Nikolaev region, 14 names of streets of settlements of the South Ukrainian urban territorial community and the city of Yuzhnoukrainsk will be renamed.
This is stated on the city council website, Ukrinform reports.
“According to the results of the discussion of the commission on naming and renaming the names of streets, alleys, avenues, etc. on the territory of the South Ukrainian city territorial community, the need to rename the city of Yuzhnoukrainsk was unanimously resolved. After all, in accordance with the requirements of the Law of Ukraine “On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as the State Language”, the name of the city does not comply with the spelling norms and standards of the state language,” the report says.
It is noted that according to the letter of the Institute of the Ukrainian Language of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the normative form of the name of the city of Yuzhnoukrainsk is Pivdennoukrainsk.
In addition, the commission decided to rename 14 streets of the community, and also identified 7 streets that require a more detailed study of their renaming.
In particular, the streets of Friendship of Peoples, Mayakovsky, Pugachev, Mayakovsky, Lermontov, Pospelov and a number of others are to be renamed.
It is noted that after the renaming of the streets and the change of the name of the city of Yuzhnoukrainsk, the residents of the territorial community will not have any financial expenses, because it is not necessary to replace documents for property or land, as well as to renew the registration.
As Ukrinform reported, at the end of April, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy and the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance clarified the demolition of monuments and the renaming of names associated with the history and culture of Russia and the USSR.
