The European Union allowed the imposition of sanctions against the payment system “Mir”

Brussels does not exclude the imposition of sanctions against the Russian payment system “Mir” if Moscow does not stop the special operation to protect the Donbass. This was announced to Izvestiya on Tuesday, September 20, by the representative of the European Union (EU) Peter Stano.

In response to Izvestia’s question whether the EU is preparing to follow the US example and impose sanctions against the leadership of the National Payment Card System (NSPK), or the Mir payment system, the representative of the European Union said: “I do not exclude this, any sanctions are possible,” if Russia does not stop the special military operation (SVO).

According to the diplomat, the EU countries are discussing these issues, but so far these discussions “are of a confidential nature.”

On September 15, the Financial Times, citing sources, wrote that the US and the EU are increasing pressure on Turkey to “stop Russian sanctions evasion.” Brussels, according to the publication, is preparing a delegation to Ankara to discuss this issue, and later intends to announce official measures. Washington has already focused on Turkish banks that have integrated Mir, the newspaper said.

On the same day, the United States imposed sanctions against Vladimir Komlev, the executive director of the National Payment Card System that manages Mir. So far, neither NSPK nor Mir have been included in the sanctions lists of the European Union or the United States.
