The Frontier supercomputer based on AMD EPYC processors showed a performance of 1.1 exaflops. Due to such indicators, it was called the fastest in the world.
In total, the supercomputer has 9.4 thousand 64-core AMD EPYC 7A53 processors. In addition, there are 37.6 thousand AMD Instinct MI250X accelerators. The storage capacity is about 700 petabytes. The entire Frontier covers an area of 372 square meters.
With a performance of 1.1 exaflops, the supercomputer topped the top 500, beating Japan’s Fugaku.
However, there are doubts that Frontier is the fastest. In 2021, two supercomputers were launched in China – Sunway Oceanlite and Tianhe-3, which showed the same result. But they are simply not included in the international ranking of Top500. Frontier is owned by the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the United States.
