Russian sapper units have begun demining the coast of the Sea of ​​Azov in the area of ​​the seaport of Mariupol. This was reported on May 24 by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

“Engineering work on the coast is carried out by specialists from the International Mine Action Center. In the course of demining, sappers locate and neutralize unexploded ordnance during recent fighting. All detected shells and mines are blown up on the spot using overhead charges. In the course of work, Uran-6 robotic demining systems are widely used to destroy mines,” the Russian Defense Ministry said.

So, the ministry showed how sappers work off the coast. They inspect literally every centimeter when using the Uran-6. The place where the ammunition was found is marked with a red flag. Then they are cleared out.

Also, Russian sapper units are conducting engineering reconnaissance and demining from explosive objects of the territory of the Azovstal plant in Mariupol, which was completely liberated on May 20. As of May 23, more than 100 explosive objects on the territory of the enterprise have already been destroyed in two days.

On February 24, Russia announced the start of a special operation to protect Donbass. The operation began against the backdrop of the situation in the Donbass that worsened in mid-February. The authorities of the DPR and LPR reported increased shelling by Ukrainian troops, announced the evacuation of civilians in the Russian Federation and asked for recognition of independence. On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a corresponding decree.
