The second liner for Ukrainian refugees arrived in Scotland

Another cruise ship has arrived in Scotland to temporarily accommodate refugees from Ukraine. This was reported by The Scotsman newspaper on September 1, citing local culture minister Neil Gray.

The newspaper specified that the liner Ambition, which arrived in the city of Glasgow, accommodates more than 700 cabins. She is chartered for six months and will be stationed at King George V Docks on the River Clyde. For the residents of the liner, round-the-clock transport is organized, by which they can arrive at the ship and leave it at any time.

On August 11, the Scottish authorities announced the need to hire a second cruise ship to accommodate Ukrainian refugees.

It was reported that, unlike in England, where only their relatives, as well as families and organizations can accommodate refugees from Ukraine, in Scotland and Wales, local authorities also took care of the accommodation of Ukrainians who left the country.

On July 29, the Telegraph noted that the cabins of the Victoria cruise ship in Edinburgh, where Ukrainian refugees were accommodated, are smaller than prison cells in Scotland.

Since July 12, Scotland, following Wales, has temporarily suspended the admission of refugees due to a lack of housing.

According to the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, from February 24 to August 9, 2022, more than 6.4 million refugees arrived in Europe from Ukraine. Most of them are in Poland, Germany and the Czech Republic.
