Sustainable parenting platform YoungPlanet increased app signup by 235% in the first five months of 2022 compared to the same period in 2021. The app is used by families across the UK to give and receive free children’s items; Parents help avoid unnecessary landfill waste.
The number of app users has now crossed the 120,000 mark and the app typically lists 3,000 children’s items at once. Since its launch in 2019, more than 30,000 baby items have found a new home through YoungPlanet and this has helped UK families save over £ 1 million on parenting and baby items.
The tide of growth comes as more families across the country look for new ways to cope with the unprecedented rise in living costs, especially as they seek solutions that are both environmentally friendly and resistant to inflationary pressures.
YoungPlanet offers a free, “cashless” platform based on the sharing economy model. Parents can list or request different items for children; From books and clothes to toys and baby equipment. The app encourages a circular system of sharing; Prioritize those who have donated more items in the past so that parents are motivated to be as sustainable as possible.
YoungPlanet co-founder Jason Ash commented:
“The growing demand for sustainable solutions like ours is partly due to the rising cost of living, but also because families want to do more for the planet. Our platform is committed to helping families dedicate the items they need more sustainably. The circular economy is naturally resistant to inflation and inflation, which means that households can source quality goods without spending a fortune.
“By helping parents reduce the environmental impact of their waste as well as reduce their costs, we are working to create a sharing community that can help others become more environmentally and financially aware.”
