A UN fact-finding mission is due to arrive in the coming days in the occupied city of Olenevka, Donetsk region, where more than 50 Ukrainian prisoners of war were killed at the end of July.
According to European Pravda, Rosemary Di Carlo, Deputy Secretary General of the Organization for Political Affairs, said this at a meeting of the UN Security Council on Wednesday.
“The investigative mission, which is due to arrive in Yelenovka, in the coming days will consider the incident on July 29, in which 53 Ukrainian prisoners of war were killed and another 75 to 130 were injured,” she said.
“The chairman of the mission, General Carlos Alberto de Santos Cruz, is traveling with a team of senior officials and experts. The mission must complete its task without any obstacles, with full access to people, places and evidence,” the UN representative added.
Di Carlo also thanked Ukraine and Russia “for their constructive approach and their preparation for this mission” and added that the UN is counting on their continued support.
Recall that on July 29, Russian media reported on the shelling of a colony in Yelenovka, Donetsk region, where Ukrainian prisoners were kept. The propagandists claimed that there were at least 53 dead.
The General Staff of Ukraine denied the accusations of the Russian Federation that the blow was delivered by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to the General Staff, the Russians tried to hide the torture and murder of prisoners.
