They were looking for stunt cats for a jump from a height: the producer of the film commented on the accusations of cruelty

The producer of the short film “Education at Height” Oleksandr Zakhlyupany reacted to the scandal that erupted around the use of stunt cats for filming a jump from the second floor onto a mattress.

The day before, animal rights activists accused the organizers of the filming of cruelty to animals.

In response to an official request, Derzhkino admitted that there are indeed scenes with a cat in the script, however, according to the plot, “the main character tries to save it.” At the same time, in the description of the plot, which his assistant Natalia Baranova sent to human rights defenders, there was not a single word about the cat.

“According to the plot, the main character tries to save the cat from brawlers and in the future it saves his own life. The subject and the plot in no way violate clause 5.4.21 of section 5 of the Agreement.

The implementation of the creative idea is planned to be carried out with the help of techniques of direction, editing, computer graphics, with the use of optical illusions and with the involvement of professional stuntmen,” the film’s producer emphasizes.

He also commented on the fact that on the eve of the film, they were looking for backup cats in the Kyiv cat shelter. Several takes were to be made with the animals until one of them landed “correctly”.

Zhlyupany explains that it is impossible to predict the behavior of cats 100%, so they decided to find several identical animals so as not to have to stop the filming process.

“Everyone knows that it is impossible to set clear tasks for animals and predict their behavior 100%. Since it is necessary to shoot several shots on different days, our assistant was given the task of finding several identical stunt cats so that we could not interrupt the shooting process.” – said in the response to the request.

We will remind you that the short film “Education at Height” is being shot with the support of the State Agency of Ukraine for Film Affairs. There, after the scandal that erupted around the exploitation of animals, they said that the contract for the production of the film stipulated that the film would not contain propaganda of war, violence, cruelty, etc.

The short film “Education at Height” is directed by Anton Chistyakov.
