GAME NIGHT: New York Rangers vs Carolina Hurricanes Game 2

When: 8:00 PM ET, Friday, May 20, 2022
Where: PNC Arena, Raleigh, North Carolina

Summary

The Carolina Hurricanes will look to continue eating home cookies in the playoffs on Friday as they host the New York Rangers in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series.

The Hurricanes have won five playoff games at Raleigh, N.C. this spring. They beat opponents 20-7 and hit 92.3 percent of their enemies’ power plays.

Sebastian Aho scored late in the third period and defender Ian Cole scored 3:12 in overtime to give Carolina a 2-1 win over New York in the opening match of the series on Wednesday. Cole scored the second NHL play-off goal of his career when his wrist shot from above the right face-off circle hit Rangers defender Ryan Lindgren and former Vegina Trophy finalist Eger Shestarkin.

“It’s not necessarily about this game,” Cole said. “It’s about building that journey, moving forward. We’re not here to win a game in the second round and say, ‘OK, the mission is done.’ We’re here to win a Stanley Cup. It’s a great move and I think it showed our resilience as a team so we can test ourselves and fix our game during the game and not have to wait after the game. ”

The Metropolitan Division-champion Hurricanes responded with a total of 14-shots in the first two periods, registering the first seven in the third.

Carolina coach Rod Brind’amore said: “We have definitely increased the level of intensity in our game. We have played with a little more frustration than we needed.” “We had a slight lack of it for two seasons. It doesn’t always work, but we had a really good third period and it came back into our game. Then it went into extra time.”

Ahora has a total of eight points (four goals, four assists) in five games against the Rangers in the 2021-22 (regular season and playoffs). Kevin Dinen is tied for third place behind former captain Eric Stall (19) and Brind’Amor (18) in the Hurricanes / Hartford Wheelers franchise history of 17 career play-off goals.

Carolina’s Aunt Ranta, a former Rangers backup goaltender, recorded his fourth win in the post-season, stopping 27 of 28 shots, where he scored two or fewer goals.

Runter’s only spot appeared after Philip Chital scored in the 7:07 minute of the first period. Fellow “Kid Line” member Alexis Lafrenier provided a helping hand by identifying the fifth point of the post-season for the top overall pick of the 2020 NHL draft.

Although the Hurricanes have won Game 1 for the second consecutive series in these playoffs, the Rangers are trailing behind the opener for the second time in a row. New York fell into triple overtime in Game 1 of the first round series in Pittsburgh and overcame a 3-1 deficit in games to eliminate the Penguins.

“We’re in this position,” Chital said. “So we have to keep our heads straight and we have a day off (Thursday), we have practiced, we have had good meetings and we are only ready for the game on Friday. I think we can take a lot of positive things from this game. I think (of) For)) Two and a half periods we play (how) we want to play and we set the speed of the game.

“Unfortunately, they scored a goal. We have to make this game and take all the positive aspects to another game.”
