Not everyone has Wi-Fi at home. To connect it, you need to have a router on which there are many indicators and light bulbs that blink from time to time or constantly. If you conduct a survey, almost none of the users will know what the light bulb means. Therefore, today we want to talk about these marks, and we will take a standard TP-Link router as an example.
The first bulb is responsible for power, its value is the easiest to find out. Everything is logical – if the light is on, then the router is plugged into the outlet.
The second light has a radio wave icon. If there is a light, it means that the Wi-Fi signal is working. Because it happens that the router works from a cord, in which case nothing will light up there, or the reason for the lack of light there means that the router is not working correctly or the settings have gone astray.
Interesting: An old smartphone can become a router. How to do it?
The following sensors are LAN ports. There are as many bulbs as there are ports. Accordingly, the light through which the data transfer is going is lit. All others do not burn at that time.
The next light is responsible for the connection and means that it is happening through the WAN port. If the light is on, everything is fine with the network and it is working correctly.
Next is a mark in the form of a lock. It is responsible for the connection by pressing the WPS button. Here you need to orient yourself as the light flashes. If it is slow, then the connection mode is in progress, if it is fast, then the time has expired. If it is not lit, the mode is not active.
If there is a settings icon on your router, then this is the button responsible for the device’s serviceability. If it lights up, there are problems, if it flashes, then everything is fine, if it does not light up, then there are problems with the router itself.
Given that routers are from different manufacturers, the indicators may also differ. Let’s talk about a few of them:
●A bulb that is responsible for the operation of the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands.
● USB port indicator. It will light or blink if something is connected to the port. Such an indicator is available in many models.
●Light that shows LOS and PON fiber operation. There are routers where one light is responsible for two indicators. LOS lights up when there is a connection, and PON when it is registered in the network.
It is worth knowing: It is known how attackers can harm by hacking a Wi-Fi router
We talked about the main indicators and their meaning. If someone does not have these indicators, then it is nothing. The markings and color of the indicators may differ from each manufacturer. Therefore, if you want to reliably know information about your router, it is better to review the instructions.
