The world’s largest freelance exchange Upwork has finally said goodbye to clients from Russia and Belarus. The day before – June 1 – freelancers from the aggressor countries received a farewell letter from the company, writes “Kommersant”.
In it, Upwork says it will be happy to work with Russian and Belarusian customers and restore their accounts if they move to other countries.
It will be recalled that Upwork voiced its position on the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine on March 7. The company announced the cessation of activities in these countries, however, in several stages. Initially, the freelance exchange restricted Russians and Belarusians from being able to create new accounts, enter into contracts and appear in search. Existing contracts continued until May 1. The company expressed hope for the resumption of work in Russia and Belarus in the event of a “change in the geopolitical situation.”
As reported, experts estimate that since February 24, almost a thousand international companies have voluntarily stopped or restricted their activities in Russia.
