Dua Lipa says she almost gave up music to move away from her dreams after becoming the target of internet villains.

The 26-year-old Kiss and Make Up singer has become one of the UK’s biggest performers since she burst onto the music scene in 2015.

But the album and number-one single would never have happened if she had accepted her initial fear of being bullied by online trolls.

Dua has explained that the abuse she endured was so bad that she almost left the music world altogether – but now feels confident regardless of what trolls tell her.

She told Sun: “There were moments of self-doubt, although it was a bit unfair because so many people who were sending those messages or saying things online really didn’t come to one of my concerts.

“Social media is kind of running on this malicious currency who can make people laugh at someone else’s expense.”

She added: “Now, if someone says anything, it doesn’t even bother me.”

Earlier, Dua discussed how she turned to Russell Brand for support and advice when she found herself struggling to deal with trolls.

She said on the At Your Service podcast last month: “I was interested in starting therapy and he made an offer. I went through a stressful period.”

The star also explained how she has changed over the past year – what led her to end her romance with Anwar Hadid.

“Life is a process,” she explains. I thought I figured it out, then things started drifting away.

“It was a phenomenal year of growth. I began to understand myself in a different way. I have confidence that I didn’t have before. I’m not like who I am”.

She went on to explain that social media trolls had affected her “profoundly” and admitted: “I stopped thinking about myself.”

Earlier this month, Dua also explained how she changed her lifestyle before embarking on her current world tour.

She said: “I had laryngitis in December and that kind of motivation made me quit smoking a month earlier than I planned. But I did and I stuck with it.

“I have this habit tracker on my phone, where every night I bookmark all the good things I’ve done for my body and the things I’ve done for myself.”

However, Dua has now said that she feels “invincible” on stage after switching up several health and fitness workouts to stay in shape for the tough tour.

These have included inviting a personal yoga instructor to accompany her during the start of the tour.

On the latest episode of the At Your Service podcast, she said: “I feel like when I’m on stage there’s another confidence and you know, I feel so invincible at times when I’m performances.”
