Man Utd news: Erik ten Hag makes Class of ’22 request as FA Youth Cup celebration sparks tears

New Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag will take a look at the club’s FA Youth Cup 22 winners after Tuesday’s win over Nottingham Forest.

Erik ten Hag has already requested a video copy of Manchester United’s Class of 22 FA Youth Cup win over Nottingham Forest to analyze his new team’s young stars.

United beat Nottingham Forest 3-1 in the FA Youth Cup at Old Trafford on Wednesday night to give Ten Hag plenty of hope ahead of his arrival at Old Trafford this summer. The Dutchman is set to begin a major squad makeover at United – and it seems the new boss could consider promoting some of the prolific FA Youth Cup winners.

It comes as Alejandro Garnacho left his family in tears after his goal celebration against Forest in the final, which was a tribute to United icon Cristiano Ronaldo. And new manager Ten Hag has met football director John Murtough in Amsterdam after winning the Eredivisie title with Ajax.

Ten Hag makes a request for the FA Youth Cup

Erik ten Hag has already asked for a video copy of Manchester United Under-18s’ FA Youth Cup victory.

The new United manager was lost in thought and couldn’t watch the game himself as his Ajax side clinched a 5-0 win over Heerenveen to clinch the Eredivisie title. But the Dutchman still seems keen to keep an eye on United’s young talents – and there’s every chance he could promote some of them to his senior side in the years to come.

Garnacho celebration induces tears

Alejandro Garnacho’s parents were moved to tears during his wild celebration scenes during Manchester United U18’s FA Youth Cup victory.

The young Argentine announced himself in front of around 70,000 Manchester United fans at Old Trafford as the class of 22s beat Nottingham Forest 3-1 to lift the trophy. Garnacho inspired his side to success as he won and then saved a controversial penalty before scoring his second goal deep in injury time.

And as United’s match-winner celebrated his second goal with Cristiano Ronaldo’s signature ‘Siu’ celebration, his parents struggled to hold back tears.

In Ten Hag’s Meeting

Less than 24 hours after winning the Eredivisie title with Ajax, new Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag met with director of football John Murtough in Amsterdam.

The two met to discuss transfer targets, with Ten Hag reaffirming his desire to bring two new midfielders to the club this summer. Ten Hag’s longtime Ajax assistant Mitchell van der Gaag and Steve McClaren are also said to be present at the meeting – both close to agreeing terms to accompany him at Old Trafford.
