It wasn’t an easy ride for Halo Infinites multiplayer. Since the game’s launch, there have been criticisms of the pacing of content updates, multiple delays in promised updates, and ongoing issues with headline modes.
Even Season 2 got off to a “bumpy” start, according to developer 343 Industries.
Want to get good at Halo Infinite? We have all the tips you need.
But the developer is keen to improve what has been a fairly uneven ride so far. One way the creatives at 343 Industries seem keen to win back fan spirits is by throwing in classic maps – something people have been asking for since the game first launched in 2021.
In an interview with Kinda Funny Xcast, the game’s Head of Creative – Halo veteran Joseph Staten – was asked by Parris Lilly if multiplayer maps from older Halo games could appear in the game (thanks, TrueAchievements). The maps could eventually make Season 2’s proposed length feel a bit more digestible.
Proceed to about 21 minutes to hear the relevant information.
“I can talk about some things but not others,” teases Staten. “There are some great Halo cards out there. I think we all have our personal favourites. Guardian, Blood Gulch, The Pit… there are a lot of maps that are great, right? I think it would be great to play cards on it again, right? That sounds like a fun thing to do.”
It’s not exactly a confirmation that we’re getting classic Halo cards in the game, but it’s not far off, is it? There isn’t much room for interpretation.
Season 2 debuted two new maps – Catalyst and Breaker – and they haven’t exactly set the world on fire. The appearance of classic cards in the game would likely bring back lapsed players and could even make brand new converts switch from the Master Chief Collection and try to walk on the modern side of the franchise if they got it right. Just make sure you put Narrows and Ascension in there, 343 Industries.
Also, Halo Infinite Season 2, Lone Wolves, launched on May 3rd with three modes: Land Grab, Last Spartan Standing, and King of the Hill.
