Publisher Bandai Namco and developer FromSoftware had a record year elden ring so far. It was only in March that we learned the game had sold 12 million copies, and now – according to Bandai Namco’s most recent earnings call – we’ve learned that the title has sold 13.4 million copies.
Do you want to start (or restart) Elden Ring? let us help you
The latest IP from the respected developer just keeps selling on PC, Xbox and PlayStation platforms. The hardcore open-world action role-playing game was only released on February 25th. With almost 14 million sales, it’s already one of the fastest-selling games in the history of FromSoft – and Bandai Namco. It’s worth noting that we’re now a month and a half away from that count – so that number is likely already significantly higher.
Even Dark Souls 3 only sold 10 million copies at the last official count. Can Elden Ring keep this momentum and break 20 million sales by the end of the year? At this point, it seems likely, especially with Elden Ring DLC in the works (as evidenced by inaccessible arenas and other in-game clues).
Given that Elden Ring debuted as both the best-selling game of February 2022 (and 2022 more broadly), it’s no surprise that the title is still selling as well if we look at the quieter part of the game approach year.
All of this momentum has Bandai Namco considering more Elden Ring projects – and it sounds like they won’t just be games. The publisher said in March that it wanted to expand Elden Ring as an intellectual property and produce more work based on it “with hopes of expanding beyond the realm of games”.
What do you want to see in a sequel to Elden Ring?
“We will continue our efforts to expand the brand beyond the game and into everyone’s daily life,” said Bandai Namco President and CEO Yasuo Miyakawa. I don’t know about you, but that sounds kind of creepy to me.
By all accounts, the journey of the Elden Ring has only just begun. If you’re looking to keep yourself alive as FromSoft continues down this violent, deadly path, you might want to use our Elden Ring guide as a resource. Because it sounds like we all have something to survive.
