A well-known analyst at TF International Securities, Ming-Chi Kuo, has published a forecast regarding the release of the PlayStation VR2 (PS VR2) virtual reality headset, suggesting the imminent start of mass production of the device. According to him, a new version of the VR headset will begin to be released before the end of this year.
The analyst believes that Sony will release about 1.5 million PSVR 2 headsets by the end of this year alone, with sales starting in 2023. “My latest supply chain research suggests that the assembler and several suppliers of PS VR 2 components will begin mass production, with around 1.5 million units shipped in the second half of 2022. Sony may release them in the first quarter of 2023, depending on the release schedule for PS VR2 games,” the expert wrote today.
Information about a potential release of PS VR 2 appears not for the first time. Earlier in February, one of the insiders also said that Sony intends to introduce a new headset in early 2023. Kuo himself has been wrong in his predictions before, for example, he reported that the release of PS VR2 could take place in April 2022. But the PS VR2 headset hasn’t arrived yet.
The latest forecast comes shortly after Sony announced that more than 20 Sony-developed and third-party games will be ready by the time PS VR2 launches. Some of the games may be presented in the coming days during the State of Play presentation, which will take place on June 2.
