The first phase of the merging of PoW and PoS blockchains in the Ropsten testnet will take place as planned on June 2-8. This information was reported by the main developer Tim Beiko.
Beiko called this event “the first rehearsal” for the miners.
He then opened a lengthy Twitter thread discussing the technical details of the event. Beiko reminded the developers that in their case nothing should change after the merger.
Ropsten is one of the oldest PoW testing centers with almost real conditions. This testnet checks the performance of the system before the full transition to Ethereum 2.0.
A similar update is waiting for two more testnets – Goerli and Sepolia. Only after that, programmers will move on to work on the main networks.
The PoS Beacon Chain launched to connect to Ropsten will need to undergo a Bellatrix upgrade. Then, after a few days, miners will need to select Terminal Total Difficulty (TTD) in the settings to start the transformation. And also configure your nodes according to these values.
The Ethereum Foundation raised the maximum prize pool to $250,000 to mitigate the risks of switching to the new system.
Recall that the most likely date for the transition of Ethereum to the PoS algorithm is August.
