Xiaomi is apparently working on a new foldable smartphone that resembles the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3. It’s a clamshell phone with a flexible screen.
Xiaomi recently filed a new patent with the State Intellectual Property Office of the People’s Republic of China (CNIPA). The images in the patent show the foldable smartphone both folded and unfolded. First, it is clear that the device can be quite compact. Secondly, you can see the camera module, which is located horizontally, which is very similar to the Google Pixel 6 in terms of design.
This module has three cutouts for image sensors, but one of them can be used for LED flash. The sketches also show that the smartphone has speakers on the bottom, a SIM card slot, and a USB Type C charging port. The display itself does not appear to have a cutout, so it’s not clear what mechanism the smartphone will use for the selfie camera. Maybe it will be a subscreen module.
