Meta launches Amber alerts on Instagram to search for missing children

Meta is launching Amber’s Instagram alert system on June 1 to help locate missing children, Instagram reported on Wednesday.

“In 2015, Meta launched Amber alerts on Facebook – since then they have successfully helped eliminate the threat to children in the United States and around the world. Today, Meta is expanding the horizons of Amber alerts and launching them on Instagram … Amber alerts will take effect on Instagram today and will be fully available over the next few weeks in 25 countries, including Ukraine, “the statement said.

The system was developed in partnership with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in the United States, the International Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the National Crime Agency in the United Kingdom, the Mexican Attorney General, the Australian Federal Police and other organizations.

“Notifications will include important information about the missing child: photos, descriptions, abductions and other available information. Users can also share notifications with friends to further disseminate information,” – said on Instagram.

June 1 is the International Children’s Day in many countries around the world. In Ukraine, it was approved as a national holiday in 1998, and is not a day off.
